Immediate Past Chairman of MS College Republicans Responds to Westbrook (Monday, June 25, 2007)

To Whom It May Concern:

In light of the recent controversy surrounding MFCR Chair Jessica Westbrook, we feel that some clarification is in order as to the nature of the situation. Not long ago, Ms. Westbrook blatantly and deliberately lied to the state board of the Mississippi Federation of College Republican pertaining to the candidacy of John Burris. Working in coordination with the Burris campaign, Ms. Westbrook informed the state board that Mr. Burris was unopposed and called for a vote to endorse him. As no one on the board was aware of Kristy Cottrell's candidacy, though she was certainly a candidate at the time, the board did not oppose the endorsement. This was deception in the highest degree by Ms. Westbrook. Moreover, she attempted to circumvent the MFCR board by addressing this issue with parties outside the State of Mississippi.

In this matter, as in many other matters during her tenure, Ms. Westbrook has shown absolute contempt for the manner by which the MFCR performs its duties. Her attempt to disenfranchise fellow College Republican leaders is deplorable.

We would like to thank those who have contacted us regarding this matter, including Mr. Keith Gates and others. Outside opinions are always appreciated. However, we ask that you respect the parties involved by allowing this to be handled by the Mississippi Federation of College Republicans.

Sincerely,

Natalie Cole
